I’m a patriot. I love my decadent, cosmopolitan, self-indulgent, racially mixed, godless, intellectually dilettante, drug-abusing, promiscuous, queer-loving country. And its flag is the Stars and Stripes. — Patrick Nielsen Hayden

After most of a week of getting shitty sleep I woke up this morning at 1am and couldn’t get back to sleep because my Brain had the spinnies … So I got up and wrote down all my active projects, maybe putting them on paper will help tomorrow night’s sleep. For the curious they are below the cut tag.  There are only 50 or so on the list.

Review completed! “They like me, they really really like me!” *

In any case it went well. All feedback was inline with what I expected, and we all see my job growth/arc going the same place. And now I can be happy that I don’t have to do this again for another year!

But at almost 40, I dunno – today is my annualish review at work. Last night was the dreaded “fill out the self-evaluation”. Today its tickticktick until I go into the meeting.  So far I have not had a bad review here, but yet my pessimism or low self-esteem just makes me dread these things.

If only I could do my job perfectly in my own eyes (yes I know, totally impossible), maybe I would be less self-judgemental and then not be so assuming of the worst.

Linky things January 21st

Here is some stuff I have been reading that I thought folks might like:

  • January 21st – Look, dudes are for looking, dammit – but the more you think about it, the more it’s obvious how these beliefs are wound throughout our social narratives about sex, from arguing that teen girls have sex for attention (not desire) to the way that homophobes obsess over gay men having anal sex, which puts a man in the inconceivable/intolerable position (in their view) of being penetrated, which is what women are for.
  • January 21st – No Time Like the Present to Choose Strong Passwords [Passwords] – I feel like this is 1/2 of my life at the office.
  • January 21st – Not One Dollar – not1$
  • January 21st – Stop calling Joan Holloway fat! – If I hear another blogger/author/interviewer comment on Christina Hendricks’ weight I might lose it. As if her body (omg BOOBS) wasn’t enough of a focus already, now she is being picked apart for her appearance at the Golden Globes the other night.
