Here is some stuff I have been reading that I thought folks might like:
- April 9th – Makers Market: Windy City Glass – These are totally cool – now I just need to figure out how to get someone to gift some to me.
- April 9th – New Ikea laptop stand is too sexy for its name – NEED!!!! Why is this not in my living room NOW!
- April 9th – DC, part two – I really like this account of Michelle Obama, I have said before that I like her, and would have voted for her for president – its nice when I hear things that don’t contradict my gut instinct.
- April 9th – Just Happiness – Nice little freebie from Gaiman and Vess to promote their new book Instructions.
- April 9th – iPad: The Disneyland of Computers – “To me, the iPad is Disneyland. I like Disneyland. It’s clean, safe, and efficient. There are lots of entertaining things to do. Kids can drive cars; adults can wear goofy hats with impunity. . . .I like to visit Disneyland, but I wouldn’t want to live there.”
- April 9th – even when you are deep in study, there are still cool Youtubes – This is incredibly fun! Especially for all us “old” folks who grew up on the early generations of home video games systems.
Garden Rant: Growing moss inside—on purpose.
I am not sure if I think this is cool, or gross or both . . . I mean I know things grow in my bathroom, and moss certainly would be an improvement . . .

Chain for my glasses
When I got my glasses I knew I would be in serious danger of losing them, I wanted a chain to keep them attached to me, but most everything in the store sucked. So I commissioned Stephanie to make one for me. I provided some of the beads, and Stephanie provided all of the creativity and impeccable wirework.
I decided that I didn’t want the old lady librarian look so together we decided to go with one ring instead of two ear piece attachment thingies. This way I can fold the glasses up and hang the the arm of the glasses through the ring.
I am SO pleased, it was just what I was looking for and I have been wearing it and making use of it everyday since I got it in my greedy little hands.
If you like what you see, you can run over to her Etsy site “WireWork” and see what else she has made.

Darth Maul Lightsaber
Not that I need any more dust collectors in my house. But really – if you are going to have one, it should be as cool as this.
My dad’s company makes packaging for all kinds of stuff, and this time it really got us some nice schwag. To the left here you can see a bit of the base of Darth Maul Lightsaber that he gave us. Including the wrench and connector so it can be connected up to another one to make a full Lightsaber quaterstaff thingie. I don’t know if it from the Master Replica line or the Force FX line which are duplicates of the Master Replicas. But they are pretty cool either way:
- The blade lights up from the base to the tip, and powers down from the tip to the base
- Four different motion sensor controlled sound effects, power-up, idle hum, clash, and power-down.
- Sound affects are all duplicate the sounds in the movies.
- Includes a nifty display stand.
We currently have it displayed like a sword – right over the tv set – which I think is wholly appropriate
.
P.s. the reason we got this one is that my Dad already has 3 different models, (Luke’s, Vader’s and Obi-Wan’s I think) on display at his house.
