April 6th – TRON 1982 Trailer – this is a really nice modern style redo of a trailer for the original Tron – I’d go see this movie (to be fair, I did, and I own it now)

April 6th – Constance McMillen: I was sent to a fake prom – (I don’t have a swear bad enough to start this comment) People are really really shitty.

March 31st – Jim C. Hines – Racist, Sexist, and Homophobic – This is the 2nd or 3rd of these kinds of discussions I’ve seen in the last few days. And the comments are also good (if a bit self congratulatory). All in all owning your shit and trying to to turn it into compost instead of wallowing in it.

March 31st – Blog of Rights: Official Blog of the American Civil Liberties Union » Is Facebook Unliking Privacy? – This article covers much of my trepidation about facebook. And while it is talking about possible things happening in the future – its facebook’s attitude and business model that make it worrisome.

March 31st – Why I Won’t Attend Easter Mass | The American Prospect – “How can Benedict expect to bring sinners to God, or dare write that gay relationships are the “destruction of God’s work,” when he cannot admit to the Church’s own complicity in actual moral transgressions?” (not that I believe in sin, but within the context of their own religion it doesn’t make any sense)

March 30th – Why Are All These Homosexuals Making Me Think About My Shapely, Toned Buttocks? – “The reason liberals are so mean to conservatives are twofold: the first, and most important, is that many conservatives tend to take every disagreement as a personal affront and a violation of their God-given right not to be uncomfortable. The second is that conservatives and liberals don’t agree on much, and people who disagree tend to disagree. Shocking, I know.” (my emphasis – because I’ve run into this so often even with other liberals that I have disagreements with)

March 30th – The Republic of T. » So Much For “Law and Order Conservatism” – I wonder how much the fact that a lot of the left doesn’t take these people seriously makes them even more nuts.

March 25th – Newsweek takes a look at sexism 40 years after major lawsuit – “The sexist assumption that women are “for” sex with men underlies both accusations/insinuations. If you’re good-looking, you’re seen as somehow exploiting men’s sexual interest, but if you’re not, it’s assumed you only work hard because your true purpose in life as a sex object has been taken from you and you’re bitter. “

But of course, the problem with this is that Democrats won and won big. How do they reconcile their views with these unfortunate facts?”

After all, one of the main social benefits of fiction is the encouragement of empathy, and these narrow narratives deny us its full expression.”

February 9th – Rules for Anchorites – Gender Bowl – This place where men and women can barely stand each other long enough to have mutually unfulfilling sex and procreate. Where women are the sole source of everything irritating and wrong in a man’s life, plus she’s never hot enough, plus you have to, like, interact with her sometimes. No amount of lower pay or discrimination or suffering is enough to punish her for the simple act of being a woman. And men are simple and stupid and violent, but obviously should be given the keys to the world because women just suck so much.

What I think a real man should be. A healthier, better list. But it didn’t work. Say you go with “A real man takes care of his family.” Why does this have anything to do with gender? “A real man protects those who need his help.” And a real woman doesn’t? “A real man respects women.” No, a decent human being respects women. And men.” This guy is a new read for me, and usually TOTALLY worth it.
