As long as the fire walk is set up right and you keep moving, you can even hope and pray to be burned, while yelling counter-self-help slogans such as “I do not have any power to do this” and “universe, please burn my little piggies,” and you’ll be fine. — Penn Jillette

My new dye job

My new dye job

Yesterday J and S came over and we had a blast, we pulled out all of the fun salon supplies and bleached and colored our hair.  I desperately wanted to dye mine teal, but the pink hadn’t come out of my hair yet and I know enough about color-mixing that I figured that was a bad idea.

So we dyed the formerly pink hair a bright blue with some purple blended in. And we added a section of teal over and under it.  I am thrilled with the way it turned out.  I am hoping for a better picture later today – one that doesn’t feature my messy kitchen ;)   .  But for now this one will have to do.

So our plans for this weekend, that we were really looking forward to, got torpedoed by real life. There ended up being hospital visits instead of graduation parties – and yes everyone is both home and recuperating now, but I have to admit I am a bit sick of the story so I’ll write it up later.

In and around the excitement I managed to squeeze in some other excitement.

Friday night I got my ears pierced and by Sunday night I had achieved a completely un-natural hair color.

I got my ears pierced a bazillion (okay a bazillion minus 10) years ago, but in the last year or so it had become a fight to keep them from closing up, so I decided to just let nature take its course, and then get them re-pierced.  With a little trepidation I went to a piercing parlor instead of some place like Claire’s.  My friends who are much more heavily into the tribal piercing thing said it was a much better way to get pierced. But i think being scarred by watching Grease too often as a child made me a little worried about getting pierced with a needle.  But funny enough the experts were right, and the needle thing was WAY better than the claire’s gun thing.

I have been wanting to put my streak back in for a LONG time now, but circumstances conspired to make this a good weekend to get it done.    Weirdly enough the hospital is in a neighborhood that gave me easy access to the hair dyeing supplies. See pics behind the cut:

New Meds

We’ve axed the Adderall, when we started moving me up into the area of actual theraputic doses, I started having a whole series of bleah sideaffects including nausea, sleeplessness, lack of appetite, light-headedness, anxious tummy, and all this was distracting enough it was hard to tell if I was getting any positive affect from it.

Now we are playing with Strattera I started with a standard low dose on Sunday, and I’ll move into a higher dose next week. This is a newer – non-stimulant type of ADD drug. And the affects are suppossed to be gradual and last all day once you are fully on the meds.  It will be useful for anyone who sees me fairly regularly to give me feedback if they see a noticable change.

Ya know what sucks?

When it doesn’t do what you need it to do, because its working perfectly. And to make it do what you need it to do, you have to break it.

Anyone know enough about VPN through windows servers to be willing and able to help me break mine?

So more weekend details

This weekend I rolled out a huge upgrade to Brella’s servers.

We setup a windows small business server, a new huge fileserver as well as adding a whole new rack, a new switch, a new router, and an additional ISP.

Along the way there were a lot of hurdles. Some of them include overcoming stupid documentation and tools from Microsoft who makes weird assumptions about upgrade/migration paths.

I spent a lot more time overcoming hurdles and changing direction than I had planned on. I also under-planned and under-staffed – but we also spent a lot of time playing hurry up and wait ( or hurry up and troubleshoot.)

But we are also almost all up and working now. And folks are already seeing some of the benefits – and we haven’t even started doing the cool stuff yet.
