I think it is amusingly appropriate that I finished reading Rosemary and Rue early this morning – as today is its official release day.

I have been reading the author’s (public and private) blog for quite a while, and even her descriptions of her role playing worlds have been fascinating, so I had some fairly high expectations for her book. I have been looking forward to reading this book since I heard it was getting published and was not disappointed. It is an Urban Fantasy (one of my favorite genres), and also a mystery, full of well drawn characters that have complex motivations and interactions. I was drawn into the book quickly although I didn’t take a liking to the main character until about a third of the way into the book. I was pleased that I didn’t get ahead of the mystery, and that there were a number of surprises as the plot came to its conclusion. I am going to stop here, because I am not much of a reviewer. If you look at Seanan McGuire’s Blog, you will find a number of links to more eloquent reviews.

Suffice to say, I really enjoyed the book, I think a number of you will too. I also predict that if you were enticed by the concept of Laurel K Hamilton’s Mary Gentry books, but left because the porn overtook the story – you will be very happy with what you find in Rosemary and Rue.

Which is exactly what I have done for a while. I am not quite sure how much back on earth I am yet – but I thought I would mention that I am at least in orbit these days.

One of the things that has kept me away from posting is a lack of camera. I purchased a brand new one last fall, and after taking a number of great pictures of projects that I hadn’t had time to munge and post – I lost the camera. GRRRRR I am currently brainstorming ideas for posting knitting and spinning content without any actual pictures of what I am doing. I do plan on getting back here and posting more often about stuff.

I have about 8000 knitting projects on the needles, many of them seemingly close to being done. I hope by the time I get there I’ll have a way to show them off.

At this point I am not sure if anyone is even reading this anymore – But seeing as I don’t have any content of my own for today, I thought I would show off someone else’s creativity. I don’t know if you readers have ever seen what is called a “FanVid”, this is an excellent example of one.

It seemed to me that it was probably Jackie that spilled on her dad. She was just entering the hospital room when Keith and her dad were talking about it. She was telling Wallace about how much she fun she was having now that her dad had time for her. If he gets outed as crooked, he will continue to have more time for her. And while see seemed a bit conflicted looking at the headline in the paper, she didn’t seem all that upset about it, and “happy face” that she put on when she went to see her dad, didn’t seem all that ”put on”.

So recently I have been cataloging a lot of my current and stored links in del.icio.us this has prompted quite a few trips down fannish memory lane, as well as some sorrow that some pages are gone – and before I could save their fic .

what i find interesting is that some stories really hold up for me and some I find barely interesting or actively bad/non-interesting. It doesn’t seem fandom related, meaning that the good/bad/interesting/non-interesting seems to cross fandoms and ‘ships. And I am not even sure “bad’ is a good way to put it, I don’t think that the stories are actively bad (well okay a few) but just what ever drew me in before is completely lost now. And some “crack fic” (which to me means not really good as a ‘fic’ but something I want to keep reading or re-reading anyway – even if it makes me kind of ashamed – Repossession would be a primo example).

I am not sure if I am far enough away from QAF (actually I know I am not), to really have a good backward perspective, although there are already stories that I know I enjoyed that I have gone back to look at that don’t seem to hold up. Deconstructing Brian is that way for me now, I went back to “wallow” in it a few weeks ago, and I couldn’t get it to hold my attention for more than a chapter.

So I don’t know if anyone is reading this here, but I would love to know what fics hold up for folks over time, and for re-readings, and even what really really doesn’t?
