I also rarely get that at the office- the closest I think I get is when something ITish works well enough that a user is amazed at the easyness.

In the Fall and spring I love sitting at the office wearing my hand knit socks and looking down and grinning to myself.

Similarly, I get that feeling when I've sewn something or knitted or crocheted something.

And I used to get it when I completed a line or system or even just a weld at work. It's the thing I miss most about being in the field. The office has its perqs, but I rarely get the "I made this!" feeling.

Not really no, in my experience the inbox is like an email inbox for site notifications and comments. I get comments and notifications emailed to me, but some people just use the on-site inbox.

i am very interested in what you do with your friends list-
I suspect if you can do it on LJ you'd be able to do it on dreamwidth, and if you can't now, asking for it to be implemented would probably get it on the list. I just read everything on my friends list on the page, i have a couple of reading groups on lj to filter who and what i am reading when. If i didn't filter out all the fannish stuff I'd never get to read my friends posts.

I'm using a semi-supported custom LJ style that packages up the entire friend list as a single authenticated RSS feed so that I can maintain the friend list (and all the associated read permissions to my journal) on LJ but still read everything, including locked posts, in chronological order through a 3rd party feed reader. I've gotten really addicted to reading my flist in chrological order, marking them read so I can see if I missed anything, and getting notifications when there's something new to read. (Otherwise I tend to reload my friend page a lot when I'm bored.)

But it suddenly occurs to me -- is that what the weird inbox thing is for? LJ and DW both have that, and I have never been able to make heads or tails of it.

I am doing something kind of similar - in what I consider my slow mosey to dreamwidth I am converting all the public groups I am watching/member of to RSS feeds on dreamwidth so that I can read them over there. Does a code allow you to circumvent paying?

I tend to keep my feeds in Google and keep the social networking over on the journals. I am not sure that dichotomy makes sense to anyone but me.
