They’d saved the city with gold more easily, at that point, than any hero could have managed with steel. But, in truth, it had not exactly been gold, or even the promise of gold, but more like the fatansy of gold, the fairly dream that the gold is there, at the end of the rainbow, and will continue to be there forever–provided, naturally, that you don’t go and look.

While most of my local friends headed to Windycon, I went south . . . but not by much. Went downstate to Champaign, Il to stay a few days with my downstate family. I got some great time with the whole crew, and then a few days “just us girls.”  What do the Baumann girls do when they are at loose ends (besides marathon TV).  Well this weekend we started teaching ourselves how to quilt.  I got a tutorial from my MIL Pat a few weeks ago, I did a little research on the internet and then we just waded in.  We used leftover fabric from making Aprons (something Mom and I did a few weeks ago) to make matching pot holders. We tried a whole bunch of techniques, most of them with a reasonable amount of success considering our skill level.

We went to the zoo for E’s bday last weekend, I really like some of the buildings they’ve put in since I was really there last. But as is frequently the case, the human denizens of the zoo offer up the most amusing viewing.
