Sick of it

I am done with TV associating the sight of a Muslim man praying with doom, terror and fear. If I could recall even one instance of that scene not turning into something that is supposed to scare us maybe i would be less upset. I can’t imagine how much that sucks for someone who is Muslim, for their sacred rituals to be inextricably linked as prequel to death.

Not that it makes it any better (it doesn’t), but the same tool – praying – has been a foreshadowing symbol of impending doom in film for decades. We’re noticing it more because of the funny clothing, but it’s been around for a long time. It’s like the rule that if a gun shows up, at some point it has to go off. If someone is praying, there had better be a *reason* that they’re praying.
I know every time i see the religion that is closest to how I identify misrepresented (generally either as crazy ritual killers, or people so whacked out that Jupiter seems closer to home than they are) it frustrates me. And being that my religion isn’t generally associated with mass murder I can’t imagine it makes Muslims any happier.
And we often see regular nice white folks go to church and even occasionally temple/synagogue without it resulting in dead people.
